TOUR OVERVIEW
What's the best way to escape the heat when you're in a landlocked country? Head to the mountains! That's exactly what we do on this Saiga Tours favourite. It can get very hot in Afghanistan during this time of year, however in Bamiyan, arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth, this is the perfect time to visit, with temperatures averaging 23 during the day. For much of the year central Afghanistan is below zero and closed in by snow which is why we save this for July.
The two main things to see in Bamiyan are the famous archaeological site where the largest Buddha statues in the world used to be and Band e Amir lakes, crystal clear turquoise lakes beautiful enough to bring a tear to your eye. You'll have plenty of time to explore these in the relaxing environment that is the alps of Afghanistan.
Of course, like on any of our tours, we make sure to see as much of Afghanistan as we can. On this trip we also visit Mazar i Sharif, Balkh, Samangan and the cosmopolitan capital Kabul.
