TOUR OVERVIEW



This tour will offer you the chance to be one of the first people to visit the North Korea since they closed in 2020. This tour will take you to the Rason Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the first area of North Korea to open to foreign tourists.

We will begin by meeting in Beijing where we will catch the train together to the Northeastern city of Yanji, Jilin Province. Yanji is in a Korean Autonomus Region of China, so here we will get our first taste of Korean culture.

The next morning we will make our journey to cross into North Korea where we will spend 4 full days exploring the Rason SEZ. Afterwards we will cross back into China, where we will finish the tour in Yanji. From here you can continue exploring China or catch an overnight train or flight back to Beijing.

Itinerary
Day 1Sun Apr 6
Beijing, Yanji
  • We will all meet in the morning for your pre-tour briefing and to meet your Saiga guides. (meeting place will be confirmed before arrival).
  • We will then head to the train station to catch our train to Yanji.
  • Once we arrive will then head to one of Yanji’s North Korean restaurants to get our first taste of North Korea.
  • Overnight in Yanji.

Day 2Mon Apr 7
Yanji, Rason
  • Today is the day we have all been waiting for! We will have an early start and will begin our drive down along the border of Russia to the Quanghe-Wonchong Border Crossing.
  • We will go through the border formalities and then meet our local Korean guides.
  • We will begin the day by heading driving to Rason from the border (approximately 1.5 hours). We will then have lunch in Rason city.
  • In the afternoon, we will visit the Haean coastal park followed by a visit to the Kimjongilia and Kimilsungnia Greenhouse.
  • Afterwards, we will go see a Taekwondo performance followed by a visit to the Rason Schoolchildren’s Palace.
  • We will then have time for some souvenir shopping followed by dinner in a local restaurant.
  • Overnight in Rason.

Day 3Tue Apr 8
Rason
  • In the morning, our first stop today will be the foreign language book store where you can pick up some North Korean literature.
  • We will then head to a local art gallery followed by a visit to the Pipa Islet.
  • After lunch, we will head to visit students at the Foreign Language School where students can practice their English with you.
  • Later on we head to the Rason School Uniform Factory and then a visit to the Golden Triangle Bank.
  • Before dinner we will head to a Puduk house, where people play a traditional game similar to Chinese checkers. Afterwards, we will go learn how to make some Korean Kimchi before to get out appetites ready for dinner.
  • Overnight in Rason.

Day 4Wed Apr 9
Rason
  • In the morning, we will head to Tumangang, the tripoint of the three borders of Russia, China and North Korea.
  • We will then visit the DPRK-Russia Friendship House followed by the viewing point where we will be able to see in all three countries.
  • Later on we will visit the PuPho Duck Ranch followed by a sea cucumber breeding farm.
  • After seeing all those delicious see cucumbers we will stop for lunch.
  • After lunch we will drive to Sonbong where we will visit Sonbong Park and have time for sunbathing on the beach or some hiking on Mt Shahyang.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Overnight in Rason.

Day 5Thu Apr 10
Rason, Yanji, End of tour
  • In the morning, we begin the day with a visit to the Ryongsong Beer Brewery followed by a visit to the Paekhaksan Foodstuff Factory.
  • We will then have a quick visit to the Chonghak Sanitorium and the Chonghak Deer Ranch before heading back to the border.
  • We say goodbye to our DPRK guides and then once again go through border formalities to cross back into China.
  • We will then drive back to Yanji, arriving around 5pm.
  • End of tour.
