TOUR OVERVIEW
This tour will be starting in Astana with the World Nomad Games, which is exactly what it sounds like. Beginning in 2014 with only ten sports, this is the fifth time the event will have been held, and
there will be over 40 sports, with 3,000 athletes from 100 countries taking part. There are all the countries you'd expect to be involved like Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, but you might be surprised to see teams from the USA, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, competing in horseback archery, tug of war, falconry, dead goat polo, ordo, and taigan hunting, just to name a few.
After experiencing the Opening Ceremony as well as some other events, we will leave Astana and fly to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. From here we will venture through the famously spectacular countryside of Kyrgyzstan, we'll sleep in yurts, ride in a Soviet 4x4 up a dry riverbed, wind through spectacular canyons and valleys, and explore some abandoned Soviet gems.
From Osh, we will cross the land border into Uzbekistan, where we'll do a few SAIGA favourites, including the world's second largest solar furnace and a Soviet mountain resort town.
Winding our way through the Fann Mountains in Tajikistan through Khujand, Iskanderkul Lake, and Dushanbe, we'll re-enter Uzbekistan to visit the ancient cities of Samarkand and Bukhara, before entering our fifth and final Stan - Turkmenistan.
Crossing the land border into Turkmenistan, we'll fly on Turkmenistan Airlines to join up with the
Turkmenistan Independence Day Mega Tour
, taking in the magical Independence Day events in Ashgabat, followed by an extensive tour of parts of Turkmenistan that very few (including Turkmens!) ever see.
