The official language of Yemen is Modern Standard Arabic, and it is spoken throughout the country in the Yemeni dialect. The Yemeni dialect is most closely related to Saudi and Omani Arabic.
The south eastern part of Yemen is home to some of the only remaining southern Arabian languages that are not Arabic. There remains to this day around 70,000 speakers of Mehri and 57,000 speakers of Socotri (found on the island of Socotra) which belong to the southern semitic language group.
