Is it safe?
Yes, absolutely! Saudi Arabia is one of the safest countries we visit, with it remaining extremely stable despite the turmoil in the countries surrounding it. Saudi people are also very hospitable, so as long as you follow the correct customs they will be very welcoming.
Saudi Arabia does have very extreme punishments for certain things that are common in other countries. Open displays of affection between partners, wearing revealing clothing, and especially homosexuality are sure fire ways to get into big trouble with the authorities.
Can women travel there?
Yes, it’s true that Saudi Arabia has a particular reputation when it comes to women’s rights. However yes, it is ok and safe for women to travel to the Kingdom. Women can now travel solo and also don’t have to wear a headscarf and can now even drive since 2019!
Is it safe for non-Muslims?
Yes, while open worship of any religion other than Islam is banned, you don’t have to be a Muslim to travel safely in Saudi Arabia. There are areas that you cannot visit if you are not a Muslim, these however, are well sign posted and it’s rare that you’ll find yourself in such a situation where you can’t be somewhere. On a side note, don’t try to convert people to any non-Islamic faith as this is a great way to land yourself in big trouble.
