Iran is a pretty well-known country. Maybe because it’s regularly in the news (usually not for great reasons), maybe because it’s a huge country, one would hope it’s because of its amazing history, culture, and influence on the modern world. Whatever the reason, here are some maps to give you an even better idea of Iran.
Where is Iran?
Iran is located in the Middle East. Due to its size, it borders several countries. Iraq to the west, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the North-West, Turkmenistan to the North-East and Afghanistan and Pakistan to the East. It also has coast lines along the Caspian Sea in the North and the Persian Gulf and Indian Oceans to the South-West and South.
Provinces of Iran
Iran is divided into 31 provinces.
Tehran
Tehran is a huge city with a population of at least 16,000,000 people. It is serviced by an underground metro as well as an extensive network of huge expressways. Getting from one side of the city to the other can take hours, not just because of traffic but because of the sheer distance that needs to be covered.
Iranian Population density
In a large part due to climate, the Iranian population is highly concentrated in the North and North-East. Much of the South and East are inhospitable desert and thus have much lower population densities. Likewise, Tehran, the capital is in the North and being the centre of economic development, many move to this region for job opportunities.
