We are back with more wonderful music recommendations from the places that we love to travel. Personally when travelling I love to have a soundtrack for each country, if you do this then feel free to add these when you are joining a Saiga tour!
1. Mauritania – Noura Mint Seymali
Noura Mint Seymali is a 5 person band from Mauritania serving up a uniquely Mauritanian style of Arabic vocals and psychedelic guitar. The band formed in 2004 and has performed all over the world. Our personally favourite tracks of theirs is Arbina and Ghlana which really show off some amazing vocals and has a unique Saharan/Mauritanian and almost Turkish feel to it. Some people argue their best work is from their 2014 album TZENNI which some hailed as the best psych/blues album of the year. Definitely recommend for car rides across the desert when on tour in this interesting country.
2. Lebanon – Joseph Attieh
If you’ve already been to Lebanon then you’ve probably heard Jospeh Attieh’s music. His most famous song played throughout the country is called El Hak Ma Bemout with its famous chorus line “Libnan ruh yirijah” meaning Lebanon will come back! When you visit Lebanon, you can in fact see signs writing in Arabic that say this exact same phrase. His music has a powerful effect on a city and people that have been through so much. It is quite common if this song plays in a bar that the whole bar will erupt and sing the lyrics. Add this to your listening repertoire and then bust it out on a boozy night in Mar Mikhael, Beirut.
3. Pakistan – Maanu
Maanu is the stage name of Reman Afshar a singer-songwriter from Lahore Pakistan. He began releasing music in 2018 and since then has grown hugely in popularity. He has a soft chill style of music that is very easy to listen to. If you’re looking for some chill Urdu beats to listen to while travelling through beautiful Pakistan then we recommend trying out his tracks Jhol, Saamnay and Qasmein.
4. Palestine – DAM
We know we don’t run tours to Palestine, but we had to put DAM on the list for their unique and downright super cool style. DAM is the first Palestinian rap group to break through the Arab rap scene. They blend unique sounds from both east and west with a hip hop feel mixed with some traditional Arabic beats. They also sing a lot about social issues such as the pressure to get married. Their upbeat music is great to get you pumped up for a night out and always makes a great travel soundtrack when visiting the Levant region. Our top picks for songs are Dithiruni and PROZAC. You won’t regret adding this to your regular listening.
5. Morocco – Tarwa N-Tiniri
Yes, we know we don’t tours to Morocco however, this wonderful Amazigh band provides a fantastic soundtrack to our tours in both Algeria and Libya. Tarwa N-Tiniri formed back in 2012 with 5 self-taught musicians from Ouazazarte, Morocco. They have amazing traditional melodies mixed with jazz, reggae, blues and rock. It’s incredibly relaxing and is honestly just great as background music for the house. We recommend listening to Tit N Tit and Taryet to get you hooked!
The best way to listen to any of these artists is of course to join us on a Saiga tour in one of the many amazing destinations we travel. If you like amazing music and diving deep into the culture of a country your visiting then send us an email to
