Finally, we are hearing news coming out of Libya that the e-visa system has finally been reintroduced. This is sure to put a smile on many people's faces that have been trying to visit this beautiful country over the past year.

Background

If you weren’t already "in the know", last year Libya introduced an e-visa for foreigners wishing to visit Libya. It lasted about 6 weeks before it was rolled back due to fighting in the capital, Tripoli. Since then, getting Libyan tourist visas has not been the easiest process and has involved countless emails and phone calls to embassies around the world to find out who or how visas can be processed.

Update Now

It appears now the e-visa has been reinstated with people saying it is effective as of 21st March 2024. We don’t know anyone that has used it just yet and it will likely be a few months before anyone does successfully get in using the e-visa. Things in this part of the world take time, especially when it comes to visas.

Another report we have seen has said it will be operational from 1st May 2024. We cannot 100% guarantee that this means Libyan visas are now easy, but it does appear the process is going to be better than it has been. You will still need to organise tours, itineraries and letters of invitation through travel companies (like Saiga Tours), and then you will be able to use these documents to apply online.

The website launched by the Libyan government looks legitimate and ready to go. It also appears that the e-visa is open to everyone from all over the world.

As always we will be posting updates and news about the Libyan e-visa as we hear them! Read more about the Libyan visa here .
