In some good tourism news, more flights are now available to the Libyan capital Tripoli! From the 12 th of January Italy’s flagship carrier ITA will now operate the Rome to Tripoli route twice a week.

Tourism in Libya has not really seen big numbers, even prior to the revolution and following civil war. For the past few years as things stabilised in the country, tourism has slowly gotten easier however flights to Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport have been limited to a few destinations. On top of this difficult tourist visas and bureaucracy has still not made tourism the easiest in one of Africa’s least visited countries.

This is great news for Libyan tourism as more airlines slowly resume flights to the Libyan capital. Last year we also saw direct flights resume from Malta, with Medsky Airline as well as Royal Jordanian with direct flights now also available to Amman. Direct flights are now available to Mitiga Airport from: Istanbul, Alexandria, Cairo, Tunis, Valletta, Rome, Niamey, Dubai and Jeddah.

The new ITA route will be operating on Thursday and Sundays departing Rome at 9:10am and landing in Mitiga at 12:10pm. The return flight departs Mitiga at 1:05pm and lands in Rome at 2:10pm.

Hopefully in the future we will see more European carriers starting this route so that more people can easily visit Libya. If you are interested in visiting Libya, we offer both group and private tours of the country. To join us send us an email to [email protected] or check out our website here.
